2009 SPAM

Bobby Brunner – SPAM ChampionJune 2009 — Bobby Bunner captures his first BGA Championship title winning the 2009 SPAM in typical SPAM fashion by collecting 21 of his 38.66 skins on the back nine Sunday. A great up and down for par from the green side bunker on 18 secured the final 6 skins.

BGA veteran, Roger Waters finishes in second place with 37.66 skins and Eduardo Urrutia takes third with 30.66 skins.

Round One: Friday, the scattered showers held off at Bear Trap Dunes for a mostly sunny and hot late Friday afternoon. To kickoff the SPAM on the Black Bear and Grizzly nines, Eduardo takes the early lead winning 12 skins from Bobby, Mark and Jim. Roger Waters is in second place after earning 10 skins from Tom Jewell and Steve Flynn. Charlie Daimler is in third place after his first round with the 7 skins he won from Frank Northrop and Matt Clary.

Round Two: Saturday at the meticulously beautiful Baywood Greens, the round starts off sunny. Wind picks up on the back nine and clouds are accompanied by distant thunder. Play is halted after 16 holes due to a tornando sighting some 20 plus miles away. We all get 9 hole rain checks and split the remainng skins in each group. After two days Roger Waters is in the lead with 17.66 skins. He is followed by Eduardo at 16.66 skins and Steve Flynn with 15 skins to round out the leaders group for Sunday. Frank (14), Charlie (12.66) and Bobby (8.66) will be doing battle in the middle group. Mark (7.66), Jim (7.66) and Matt play each other in the first group on Sunday.

Round Three: Sunday at Heritage Shores Club, the fast greens, wind and water would come into play. Roger and Eduardo take most of the skins in the leaders group while Bobby dominates in the second group not missing a single fairway off the tee to jump ahead and win by a skin over Roger Waters on his home turf.
